Took Ari to his first Colourkeys class today.
His teacher Katri started the lesson by putting Ari up on a piano stool, lifting the lid and showing him how a piano works. Explained that it’s a string instrument but is also percussive, since the hammers hit the strings.

She let him play notes to make sounds, and then showed him how he can make notes louder or quieter with force. And also how higher keys are naturally quieter. Quizzed him a little on what he understood of its working.
I was really impressed by how much they had gotten through in even ten minutes. She keeps switching the modes of communication. Drawing, letting him draw, letting him play, playing for him, demonstrating mechanics of the instrument, and also sticking up icons he’s familiar with from Colourstrings when he was younger.
